Taxi driver appeal dismissed

A Rossendale taxi driver who failed a basic skills, knowledge and conditions test three times has lost his appeal to keep his licence.

Faisal Shahzad, from Manchester, appealed Rossendale Council’s decision to refuse to renew his private hire drivers licence but the appeal was dismissed by Burnley Magistrates Court.

He was ordered to pay costs of £200.

Rossendale Council tackles unsafe taxis

Unsafe taxis were taken off the road during a Council led crackdown at Manchester Airport.

The team gave out ten notices to drivers licensed by Rossendale for minor defects on their taxis and suspended four vehicles on the spot for serious defects including one which had a bald tyre.

Operations such as this one are vital ways of ensuring taxi drivers are meeting safety requirements to protect the health and safety of the public.
