Official – Rossendale is the number one walking area in England and Wales

To those who walk every week with Rossendale Ramblers and other walking groups, the pre-eminence of Rossendale as a walking area is self-evident.  If you were in any doubt, then one look at the tired but happy faces of the 600 or so walkers who tackled the Rossendale Rotary-organised Round the Hills Walk in glorious sunshine on September 3rd this year would confirm it.

Rossendale Borough Council’s innovative recycle campaign up for national award

Rossendale Borough Council has been shortlisted for the ‘Local Authority Success’ award in the 2023 National Recycling Awards (NRA) for its ‘Check before you chuck’ pilot campaign.

The innovative campaign, which ran for six months, was devised when figures revealed Rossendale had one of the lowest recycling rates in Lancashire.

The scheme saw a 15 per cent increase in the recycling of glass, plastic and tin, paper and cardboard recycling up by 11 per cent and a reduction in general waste of six per cent.

Green flag flies again over Stubbylee and Moorlands Park

In a record-breaking year Stubbylee and Moorlands Park is raising its prestigious Green Flag Award for the third year running. 

Rossendale Borough Council is celebrating after receiving the prestigious Green Flag Award for Stubbylee and Moorlands Park. 

The news that the park has achieved the accreditation – the international quality mark for parks and green spaces – is testament to the hard work and dedication of the council team and group of volunteers that care for the green space so that everyone can enjoy it.

Rossendale Council has received £17.9m funding in today’s budget. 

Council Leader Alyson Barnes said: “We’re very pleased to have finally received almost £18m in funding which we first identified in our Levelling Up bid.  The council, along with our partners and stakeholders, have worked incredibly hard to maintain the pressure on the Government.

Rossendale seeks £17m from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund

Rossendale Council is seeking £17m from the new Levelling Up Fund (LUF) from the Government to assist with major developments across the borough. 

A Levelling Up Board made up of large businesses, smaller- scale entrepreneurs, creatives, community groups and key public sector partners like Rossendale Council, Lancashire County Council and the Nelson & Colne College Group, have developed the bid.

Support for Manchester rail link in biggest ever Rossendale Council survey

Residents of Bury and Rossendale have sent a resounding show of support to a new rail link that could offer journey times as low as 44 minutes from the Valley into central Manchester.  

Eighty-six per cent of those who completed the Rossendale Council survey about the Rawtenstall to Manchester travel corridor were supportive of the potential new link that is predicted to reduce car journeys on the M66/A56 by up to three million.

Rossendale Council has been successful in securing £150,000 funding from Restoring Your Railway and Lancashire County Council to produce a Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC) into the Rawtenstall to Manchester travel corridor.
 

With high levels of commuter outflows leaving the borough to access employment, many into the Greater Manchester area, Rossendale is the only authority in Lancashire without a rail link and suffers from high levels of congestion.

First round of restoration works nearing completion in Bacup town centre

The first phase of town centre building regeneration and repairs are nearing completion as part of Bacup’s High Street Heritage Action Zone. Scaffolding is now coming down to reveal the works undertaken and allow access for the final pieces of work to be completed. 

Rossendale Rossendale Borough Council received £1.18 million of Historic England funding for the High Street Heritage Action Zone project, to repurpose and regenerate buildings, provide a public realm enhancement scheme, for community engagement and a cultural programme.

Public Consultation on Haslingden 2040 Vision and Masterplan

Rossendale Borough Council is asking the public for final feedback on proposals in the Haslingden 2040 Vision and Masterplan. 

Rossendale Council announced in summer 2021 they had successfully secured £1.8million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and would be making a further £200,000 contribution from the council. 

The 5 year project will focus on Upper Deardengate and will be a major step in the delivery of the Haslingden 2040 Vision & Masterplan.

Public Consultation on Bacup Public Realm Enhancements

Rossendale Borough Council is asking the public for feedback on proposals to improve Bacup’s public realm. 

Bacup received over £1.18 million of Historic England funding as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone project. The key outcomes of the project are upgrades for up to 22 buildings, public realm works to Burnley Road Memorial Garden, community events and a cultural programme.
