Newchurch Celebrates Christmas in Style

Newchurch Village Community Association has been busy over the past few months raising money for new lights in the village community garden. They have been generously supported in this by the Local Member Grants Scheme from Lancashire County Council and Rossendale Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Forum with 50% of the total cost being match funded by Rossendale Borough Council themselves.

The lights will be on during the Christmas period and also used for events and special occasions in the village such as the New Kirk Fair.

County Councillor (and Leader of Rossendale Borough Council) Alyson Barnes said “The aim of the grant application was to create a central focal point for the village and to provide opportunities for the community to come together and celebrate throughout the year”.

In order to celebrate the lights in real festive style, NVCA are holding a carol singing event on Monday 14th December from 6.30 till 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome and any funds raised will go towards more events in the village and supporting other local charities.

Rachael Gildert, secretary of the Association said “We want to thank Lancashire County Council and Rossendale Borough Council for their help and support to make this a reality for us. We really hope the community will come and join us on Monday 14th to celebrate the holidays and to enjoy the Christmassy atmosphere. A good singing voice is not essential!”
