“Be a Lover not a Fighter” Domestic Abuse Campaign

Published February 11, 2016 at 17:01

This is a North West partnership campaign across Cheshire, Merseyside, Blackburn, Blackpool and Lancashire.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men have suffered domestic abuse.  It’s not just physical violence. Domestic abuse can be emotional too – like threats and controlling behaviour.  It’s behind closed doors. It’s known, but not talked about.

The aim of the “Be a Lover not a Fighter” campaign is to help end domestic abuse for good. To prevent two women a week in the UK being killed by their partners. To stop children, the forgotten victims, being hurt and scared. To prevent those scars from lasting a lifetime.

The ‘Lover Not Fighter’ website has lots of information on the campaign, how you can get involved and support it. Importantly it highlights that people can move on from abusive situations and go on to form healthy relationships. The site also signposts to other websites/phone lines for detailed information and where to get help locally.
