Over the last year, an innovative partnership between Rossendale Council and the owners of the Clog Market has seen Rawtenstall Market go from strength to strength.
The Council is now looking for a new partner to build on the success as the current agreement with Clog Market owner Jane Boys is due to come to end shortly.
Councillor Alyson Barnes, Leader of the Council, said:
“Over the last year, the market has gone from strength to strength. When we went into partnership with Jane, the intention was to transform the market and make it a destination place to shop and socialise in the area.
“Jane has certainly been successful in delivering that. She had a great vision and set a clear direction. The amount of positive comments I get about how good the market is these days is amazing. I want to place on record my thanks for everything she has done to make the market a success.
“Jane always said she would do 12 months and I fully respect that decision. She will leave the market as a very attractive proposition and I am sure we will get lots of interest from quality providers who can take the market to the next level.”
“It has been an interesting pilot project, one which already has shown positive outcomes for Rawtenstall market including being awarded The Rossendale Business – Valley at Work Award. The market has had huge support from the community who value the market, they have shown us tremendous support and encouragement.
I will be working hard for Rawtenstall market until May and look forward to handing it back to another company who will appreciate the market as being a viable, community, town centre asset for Rossendale.”
The tender for a new partner will be published soon. A full plan will be developed to make sure a smooth transition to the new arrangements.
