The views of Rossendale’s residents are being sought to help influence the final version of a masterplan laying out the future vision for Bacup.
An emerging Bacup 2040 Vision and Masterplan was published in March following five months of extensive community consultation.
Now a further 6-week consultation will invite further thoughts and feedback to help finalise the document.
The vision has already been used as a basis of two successful bids to major regeneration funds for Bacup – Future High Streets and High Street Heritage Action Zone.
These funds have the potential to improve and enhance Bacup town centre by:
- Restoring and repurposing vacant and derelict buildings
- Transforming the market area and creating a new multi-use market square area and buildings
- Improvements to the footpaths to create a café culture
- Improving the car parking and sustainable transport
- Cultural activity and events programme.
The final document will be used to shape the second stage of funding bids and the future of the town centre.
Cllr Jackie Oakes, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development said:
Our aim is to make the town centre thrive and to have a welcoming, safe and vibrant atmosphere for our residents, businesses and visitors alike to enjoy, day and night.
We are really pleased with the draft Bacup 2040 Vision and Masterplan which was produced in consultation with residents, businesses and community groups. This has been used as a basis for two funding bids that have the potential to improve the town centre.
I would like to encourage residents to complete the survey, the results will be used to shape up the final Bacup 2040 Vision and Masterplan.
