Rossendale’s Schedule of Remembrance Services, Parades and Concert for 2022

There will be numerous Remembrance services, parades and concerts taking place in Rossendale between Friday 11th and Sunday 13th November. 

ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF REMEMBRANCE CONCERT  

Friday 11th November, 7.30 p.m. St Philip’s Church, Stubbins.  

The concert will include performances from Rossendale Ukulele Band and Valley Aloud Choir and will raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Footpath improvements to be made along East Lancashire Railway line

Rossendale Borough Council are working alongside Civic Pride Rossendale (Britain in Bloom Gold Winners 2022) and Community Interest Company Proffitts – Investing in Communities on a project to improve and extend the popular footpath along the East Lancashire Railway between the Railway Station at Rawtenstall, and the car park at the Aldi store at New Hall Hey.

Rawtenstall takes gold at RHS North West Britain in Bloom

Britain Bloom Gold certificate

After months of waiting Civic Pride Rossendale have been awarded Gold at the Royal Horticultural North West Britain in Bloom event.  

The event, which was held at Bolton Football ground, was held over 3 days due to the number of applications from across the North West.  

Three of the gardens in the “It’s your Neighbourhood” category were successful on the first day – The Gyro (roundabout) and Library gardens (Sparrow Park) achieved the highest award of Outstanding and the peaceful plot wildlife garden in the Cemetery received an Advanced award  

The second day saw Rawtenstall beat off competition from 11 other entries in the Large Town category to scoop the Gold.

‘Fairy-tale turreted castle’ is reborn in Bacup

THE stunning transformation of one of Bacup’s most iconic building was heralded as a huge success story as it was officially opened.

The Grade II Listed Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank on the corner of Market Street and Union Street, has always stood out in the town centre with its gothic tower, church-style window and quirky gargoyles.

Lancashire’s Labour Leaders take strong stance against fracking

Lancashire’s Labour Council Leaders have come out strongly against the government’s proposals to lift the ban on fracking. Labour Councils have adopted strategies to ensure their organisations can achieve net zero carbon targets by 2030.  These councils are also actively working with community groups and businesses to secure broader carbon reduction levels in their districts.

Rossendale Council Chief Executive to leave for new role

Chief Executive of Rossendale Borough Council, Neil Shaw has announced his departure after almost three years at the helm. 

Neil said: “It has been a real privilege to be the council’s Chief Executive. During my time the council has progressed work on improving its town centres, seen the re-opening of the Whitaker Museum after its £2.2m redevelopment, gained the borough’s first Green Flag and seen an improvement in our parks generally, and made major strides in our innovative work on carbon reduction.

Rossendale Council’s successful prosecution for abandoned vehicle

Rossendale Council’s fight against abandoned vehicles and fly tipping across the borough, Operation Tridenthas had another successful prosecution.  

The operation coordinates a three-pronged approach of education, enforcement and removal, which aims to hold to account those responsible. 

Miss Aija Dabola of Wales Road, Edgeside, Rossendale, was found to be the registered owner of a vehicle abandoned on Wales Road.

Rossendale Council are encouraging residents to ‘Check before you Chuck’

Rossendale Borough Council is launching a pilot scheme to encourage residents to recycle more household waste.  

The UK produces 26m tonnes of waste every year with 14m tonnes being sent to landfill and 12m recycled.  

Rossendale has one of the lowest recycling rates in Lancashire at just 30%. The national average is 46%.

Have your say on a new political map for Rossendale Borough Council

A new pattern of wards is being developed for Rossendale Borough Council. The Local Government Boundary Commission has decided that the number of councillors in Rossendale should be 30. This is a change from the current council which has 36. The Commission wants to hear what residents and organisations think about their local area.

It is with great sadness that the Council has been notified of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.  As the longest ruling British Monarch, Her Majesty is recognised for being fully dedicated to a life of service. Her commitment to Royal duties has been impeccable and her support for the many voluntary and charitable groups admirable.
