Environmental Health – Odour from HGV’s

Published July 14, 2016 at 8:13

We have been receiving and increased number of complaints regarding odours from HGV’s travelling through the Valley.

These vehicles are carrying material from a commercial composting company in Calderdale. The material is classed as a type of compost and is used by farmers to improve their land. The material is produced under a  Permit from the Environment Agency, the only control on vehicles leaving the site is that they must be covered up before they leave site.

Rossendale Council has no enforcement powers to stop these vehicles or require them to take any steps to control the odour.

Any complaints should be directed to the Environment Agency on 0800 80 70 60.
