Rossendale Borough Council is warning those who don’t clean up after their dogs, ‘if you’re caught, you will be fined.’
The warning comes as a man received an on-the-spot fine of £75 thanks to sterling work from local PCSO Chris Hamer from the Rossendale Neighbourhood Policing Team.
PCSO Hamer was driving down Newchurch Road, Stacksteads on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 11 when he spotted a man riding a bike whilst walking his dog. The man rode off without cleaning up his dog’s mess and so Chris stepped in.
He said:
When asked if he was going back to pick it up, the dog walker told me he had no doggie bags and asked me if I had any. A £1 roll of bags could have saved him a £75 fine.
Sam Plum, Director of Communities for Rossendale Borough Council, said:
As a Council we strongly feel that people must take personal responsibility to clean up after their dogs; none of us want to live alongside this mess. Thanks to Chris’s great work on this occasion, action was taken and a fine handed out. I hope this acts a deterrent to others – if you are caught you will be fined.
Rossendale Borough Council is supporting a campaign, The Big Scoop, launched by the Dogs Trust aimed at getting people to pick up after their dogs in public places.
