Council urges residents to have say on Government’s fracking proposal

Residents are being urged to take part in Government consultation on plans to allow exploratory fracking to go ahead without planning permission.

The proposals would designate exploratory drilling for shale gas as a new form of permitted development. This means that planning consent would not be required, taking the decision out of the hands of local authorities.

Council removes eyesore hoardings erected by developer

Rossendale Council has stepped in to remove dilapidated advertising hoardings from a conservation area in Rawtenstall.

It appointed a contractor to demolish the hoardings and four flagpoles at Holly Mount House in Rawtenstall.

They were erected by developer Westby Homes when it converted the Grade II Listed building in St Mary’s Way into apartments.

Taxi driver fined for smoking in vehicle

A taxi driver who was caught smoking in his vehicle in Waterfoot has been fined £100 and ordered to pay £150 costs by magistrates.

Adam Sharif Judge, 24, was spotted smoking in the driver’s seat of his hackney carriage in Bacup Road by licensing enforcement officers from Rossendale Council on February 14 this year.

Derelict Bacup building set for improvement

The owners of the rundown former Woolworths store in Bacup have six months to improve its condition.

Christopher and Pauline Murphy withdrew an appeal against a legal notice issued by Rossendale Council requiring them to carry out work to the building in St James Square.

Rossendale Council originally issued a section 215 maintenance notice in October 2017 because the building’s condition is adversely affecting the amenity of the area.

Crown Court upholds decision by Rossendale Borough Council

Preston Crown Court has backed a decision by Rossendale Borough Council to revoke a taxi driver’s licence.

The court agreed on Thursday (September 21) that Sarfaraz Ahmad Bibi, 40, of Timperley Road, Ashton under Lyne, should no longer be able to operate as a hackney carriage driver.

The Council took the decision to revoke Bibi’s licence after he was convicted in December last year of picking up a passenger in Stockport without being pre-booked, and for not having the correct insurance.
