Bacup THI board – update

Following a further meeting with Lancashire County Council on Friday, August 11 Bacup THI board Chair, Councillor Andy MacNae, has said the following:

Following my statement last week, I met with senior officers and councillors at Lancashire County Council on Friday. It was a positive meeting in so far as LCC confirmed their continued support for new public realm in Bacup and their desire to work closely with Rossendale Borough Council and the THI board.

It was also recognised that the changes we have made to the scheme following consultation have been positive. But before settling on a final scheme LCC did ask for more time to try and address Cllr Eaton’s concerns. Whilst this is frustrating and I remain worried that continued delay puts the scheme at risk I have received reassurances and am willing to go the extra mile to maintain LCC support and get the right scheme for Bacup. Investment that delivers more pedestrian space, safer crossings, more parking and welcoming town centre feel is a prize worth working for. We are meeting again this week and I look forward to further progress.”
